Advice for parents during Child Abuse Awareness Month
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Abuse can have a lasting affect on a child, according to therapist and counselor Jaqui Wilson.
She came on 41Today to offer advice for parents during Child Abuse Awareness Month.
Wilson says its important for parents to notice anything strange or out of the ordinary with their child – it could be a sign of abuse. If a child is normally affectionate but avoids giving hugs to a specific person, that could be a red flag. The sooner parents are able to sniff out instances of abuse, the better.
If you think you’re child might be subject to abuse, you can call the DFCS Child Protective Center at 1-855-GACHILD or the Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-4-A-CHILD.
