“Aging in Place,” the importance of renovating your home to fit new needs

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – As you get older, it’s more likely you’re faced with mobility issues inside your home.

Instead of moving, a Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) can look at your home and decide what renovations can be made to fit your individual needs and make it more accessible.

Walk-in baths, wider door frames and hallways, easy to open door handles, and lighting changes are all things CAPS can make happen.

David Hackney, a CAPS with Burgess Flooring Center, came on 41Today to talk about what “Aging in Place” is and how universal design can improve your life inside the home.

Burgess Flooring Center will present their Aging in Place, Next Generation bathroom display on Monday, April 17.

The demonstration is at the Burgess Flooring Center at 4989 Mercer University Dr. starting at 6 p.m. Hackney encourages everyone to come out and learn about how you can build a universally designed bathroom.
