Al Lucas memorial fund to awards Bibb County seniors with scholarships
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Al Lucas Memorial Scholarship Fund will grant seven Bibb County public school seniors with $1,000 a piece for their future education.
The foundation partnered with the Community Foundation of Central Georgia to spread the word about the scholarship grant.
Director of Donor Services, Julia Wood says the grant honors the Lucas’ late son, Al, who was a scholar athlete at Northeast High School. He died after a spinal injury during an AFL game.
Wood says since 2005, the foundation has awarded 70 students with scholarships, which totals close to $70,000.
This year a special ceremony will be held for the students at the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame on Wednesday, April 30 at 5:30 p.m.
The public is invited to attend by making a $25 donation to the fund.
