Dublin restaurant raises money for pets with golf tournament

DUBLIN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Russell and Carmen Owens joined 41NBC in studio Monday to help promote the Putts For Paws golf tournament happening Thursday.

"We love animals, and we wanted to do something to help them out," said Russell Owens.

The tournament starts at 1 p.m. at the Green Acres Golf Course in Dexter.

"I’ve gone around to a lot of businesses in the Dublin area and they’ve all been really responsive and a lot of them have agreed to sponsor holes or t-shirts or donated prizes for each team," said Carmen Owens.

The money goes to help with the overcrowding problem the Dublin Laurens Humane Society faces.

They should be able to spay and neuter more dogs to keep the population down.

"If everybody would take the iniative to spay and neuter the pets, there would not an overcrowding, there would not be a surplus of animals, and there would be enough people to take them in and give them good homes," said Russell Owens.
