Dublin Woman Spreads Ovarian Cancer Awareness

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Dublin woman with ovarian cancer is trying to spread awareness about the deadly disease.

Health officials say ovarian cancer starts in the ovaries and is not easily detected.

"They call it the ‘whispering disease’ because there are no early on symptoms and there’s really not a lot of screening early on,”says Danielle Rogers, a Coliseum Medical Center Nurse Navigator.

Dale Hall has been dealing with ovarian cancer for more than 20 years. She is now speaking out.

"Breaking my silence is to let people know that there’s more to it. There’s a lot of suffering in this,” Hall adds.

Vicki Lewis, one of Hall’s friends, says her friends and family support her 100 % and are also helping her mission to spread awareness.

"I have talked to people and, and they’re like, Ovarian cancer? What is that? I’m like Oh my God, your mother, your sister, your niece, your wife, any female can get it,” Lewis said.

Some symptoms of ovarian cancer include abdominal swelling or bloating, vague abdominal pains, lower pack pains, and pelvic discomfort. 

Hall’s message to women is to not ignore the symptoms and she urges them to get checked.
