Local hospital to host free car seat safety checks

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/NBC) – Experts and volunteers encourage parents to take advantage of the Children’s Hospital Free Car Seat Safety Check event this weekend.

The hospital, along with local partners: GEICO and the Middle Georgia Task Enforcement Network of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, plan to host the car seat check, which encourages guardians to ensure car seats are properly installed.

According to a release, certified car technicians will also make sure there are no recalls on current models. If companies have issued a recall on specific car seats, GEICO is prepared to replace the product.

“Through car seat checks in the past, we have found that three out of four car seat are not installed correctly. Our hope is that this event will bring the community together, so that we will continue to ensure that our children remain safe and injury-free,” said Cyndee Adams, Director of General Pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital at MCCG.

Participants will also be able to enjoy free food, and child-friendly activities.

Car seat checks take place Saturday, Sept. 13 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Walmart on 6020 Harrison Road  in Macon
