Macon restaurants participating in healthy foods challenge

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Going out to eat can be fun and you can still enjoy delicious healthy food. Katie Smoak from Community Health Works stopped by 41 Today to tell us about this week’s Healthy Restaurant Challenge.

The contest encourages healthier eating and inspires local restaurants to use more seasonal and local items in their menus.

Participating restaurants are featuring at least one healthy menu item of their choice for customers. The menu is also “market inspired” which means it highlights fruits and vegetables that are currently in season and can be found in Georgia.

Smoak said the competition challenges restaurants to offer healthier choices and cook seasonally.

The participating restaurants include Bearfoot Tavern, Doughboy Pizza, Dovetail, Fountain of Juice, Margaritas at Mercer Village, Molly’s Cafe, Roasted – Cafe and Lounge, and Taste & See Coffee Shop & Gallery.

The Healthy Restaurant Challenge ends on Monday, July 21st. You can vote for your favorite healthy entrée at www.chwg.org.
