Marco La Manno Tours Dublin, Falls In Love

DUBLIN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — First stop in Dublin was the Riverview Golf Course! It’s 130 acres and open every day except Christmas (weather permitting), so I decided to visit! The folks in the front office got us situated, so we decided to take a golf ball, a tee, a few clubs, and then we were off! We stopped by hole number 13.  I was determined to overcome the superstition behind that number, but, er… well, watch the story above to see how that went.

The next stop was the River Bend Wildlife Management Area.  You can hike, camp, and enjoy the wildlife, no matter how small.  It’s 3500 acres of beautiful forestry.  My cameraman and I took some shots of the scenery, and then we decided to make one last stop.  Seeing as I was hungry, and I’m Italian, I thought of the perfect place.

And that place was Deano’s Italian! You walk inside and see a brick oven to cook the pizza.  Do you know how long it’s been since I’ve seen a brick oven in a pizza parlor? The logs inside burn and heat the pie, and it’s marvelous  That’s part of the reason why Deano’s was voted one of the 51 great pizza parlors in the country just last year in USA Today.

One of the owners, Bob Shaffer, says he understands Italian food as a professional cook.  He says professional cooks can adjust to their environment and create something that hopefully people will enjoy.  And I can say the first bite I took was affirmation of that sentiment — I enjoyed the taste of a fantastic pizza slice!
