MBAs top the list of most popular degrees
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – For the first time ever, earning a Masters of Business Administration is the most popular degree, beating out a Masters in Education.
It is good to be in the business of learning about businesses.
"It is the most versatile degree,” Stacie Barrett, the MBA Program Coordinator at Wesleyan College, said. “It is the most widely accepted degree among employers."
That is why she is not surprised for the first time ever, MBAs climbed to the top as the most popular degree.
According to the latest statistics from the U.S. Department of Education, which are for 2011-2012, 25.4% of students earned an MBA compared to 23.6% of students who earned a Masters in Education.
For current student Ursula Lunce, getting her MBA was a no brainer.
"Makes me a little more competitive, makes me have a higher skill and knowledge base as well as experience,” Lunce said.
Rebecca West recently graduated from Wesleyan College’s program. She says she is already using what she learned.
"[I] use the information and experience on a day to day basis in my current job,” West said. “It’s great exposure to other specific areas of study and a great way to advance with my current company as well as stand out."
Even if you don’t have a business background, Barrett says an MBA is the right degree for you.
"No matter what your field is because an MBA can prepare you in so many different ways to take your career to the next level,” she said.
Barrett stopped by 41 Today to talk more specifically about the MBA program offered at Wesleyan College.
