Protect yourself, home from mosquitoes

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A mosquito borne illness made it’s way from Caribbean to the US. It’s called chikunguynya fever. Ben Dupree from Arrow Exterminators stopped by 41 Today to share some tips on how you can protect yourself and your home from pesky mosquitoes.

According to the latest numbers from the CDC, there are more than 80 confirmed cases of chikunguynya fever. Symptoms include fever, joint pain, muscle pain, headache, nausea, fatigue, and rash. Mosquitoes are also known to transmit West Nile Virus.

Dupree said you should get rid of any standing water around your home, such as children’s toys, pools, birdbaths, and flower pots. If you go outside, make sure you use an insect repellent containing DEET.
