Safety tips from National Burn Awareness Week: Keeping your family safe
FORT VALLEY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – It’s National Burn Awareness Week, and Fort Valley’s Public Safety Department wants to offer middle Georgia families a few safety tips they can use throughout the year.
Captain Antonio Woodard says the most important tip is to "remember the stop, drop and roll method."
Other do’s include:
- Seek emergency medical care
- Run cool (not cold) water over burn area
- Remove clothing from burn area
- Place covers on all electrical outlets
Don’ts include:
- Wear loose fitting clothing while cooking
- Allow kids to handle lighters, matches, fireworks, etc.
- Allow kids near the stove during cooking
- Apply ointments, butter, or other remedies to burn break any blisters
