Tips to Protect Your Home During the Holidays

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – With the holidays just days away, now is the time to be merry and not let a scrooge ruin the season. Michael Phillips, a local Allstate agent, stopped by 41 Today to tell us what you can do to protect your home during the holidays.

According to Allstate data, theft claims in Georgia increase notably during the holidays, up 51%, compared to the national average. Allstate says certain behaviors could contribute to holiday negligence.

The data found seven in 10 Georgians leave delivered packages outside their home and more than half are traveling overnight during the holidays, leaving their homes more susceptible to risk.

Allstate suggests you should install new batteries in smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. Never leave burning candles unattended. When shopping, don’t leave purchases in a visible area.
