Townsend School of Music performing variety of holiday concerts
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Townsend School of Music at Mercer has a variety of concerts in November and December, many of which are free and holiday oriented!
Dr. Richard Kosowski, director of the Mercer Singers and Mercer Youth Choirs and student James Ruffin stopped by the 41NBC studio to talk about the upcoming shows.
They’re open to all of Middle Georgia! Ruffin says he and the Mercer Singers practice four times a week.

Friday, November 18
Joan Stockstill Godsey Concert Series, Barbara Lister-Sink
Barbara Lister-Sink is a concert pianist with an international career and a specialist in injury-preventive keyboard technique. A graduate of Smith College and recipient of the Prixd’Excellence from Utrecht Conservatory, Ms. Lister-Sink currently serves as Distinguished Professor of Piano and Artist- in-Residence at Salem College. Formerly keyboardist for the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Lister-Sink has taught at the Amsterdam Muziek Lyceum, Brevard Music Center, Duke University, and as Artist Faculty at the Eastman School of Music. Her video/DVD Freeing the Caged Bird won the 2002 MTNA-Frances Clark Keyboard Pedagogy National Award. The performance begins at 7:30 pm on November 18th in Neva Langley Fickling Hall at the McCorkle Music Building on Mercer’s Macon Campus and admission is free and open to the public.

Townsend Master Class
The Townsend School of Music presents a Musical Theatre master class with Barbara Lister-Sink, a workshop on injury prevention. The class begins at 10:00 a.m. on November 19th in the Neva Langley Fickling Hall at the McCorkle Music Building on Mercer’s Macon Campus and admission is free and open to the public.
Sunday, November 20, 3 pm
Mercer Singers
The University Ensembles presents Thanksgiving Song by Mercer Women’s Chamber Choir and Mercer Singers on November 20th at 3:00 p.m. The performance is in Neva Langley Fickling Hall at the McCorkle Music Building on Mercer’s Macon Campus and admission is free and open to the public.
Monday, November 21, 10 am – 12 pm
Townsend Master Class
The Townsend School of Music presents a Musical Theatre master class with Barbara Lister-Sink, an organ master class. The class begins at 10:00 a.m. on November 21st in the Neva Langley Fickling Hall at the McCorkle Music Building on Mercer’s Macon Campus and admission is free and open to the public.

Mercer Jazz Ensemble
The Mercer Jazz Ensemble performs Jazz Combos directed by Monty Cole. The performance begins at 7:30 pm on November 29th in Neva Langley Fickling Hall at the McCorkle Music Building on Mercer’s Macon Campus and admission is free and open to the public.
Thursday, December 1
Mercer Flute Choir
Mercer’s nationally recognized Flute Choir presents a world premiere by our own Christopher Schmitz. The performance begins at 7:30 pm on December 1st in Neva Langley Fickling Hall at the McCorkle Music Building on Mercer’s Macon Campus and admission is free and open to the public.
December 2-3
Mercer Singers annual “Lessons and Carols”
The University Ensembles presents Lessons and Carols by the Mercer Singers. Jack Mitchener, organist; Mercer Brass Choir. Experience the 22nd Anniversary of this beloved Mercer tradition! The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. on December 2nd at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 830 Poplar St and admission is free and open to the public.
Monday, December 5, 7 pm
McDuffie Student Concert
Robert McDuffie Center for Strings presents a McDuffie Student Concert on December 5th. Center student recitals are held in the Bell House Salon at 7 p.m. and are free and open to the public. Seating is very limited and is first-come, first-served. Doors open 30 minutes beforehand.
December 8
Mercer University Orchestra
The University Ensembles presents The Mercer University Orchestra conducted by Ward Stare. The performance begins at 7:30 pm on December 8th in Neva Langley Fickling Hall at the McCorkle Music Building on Mercer’s Macon Campus and admission is free and open to the public.
December 9-10
“Messiah” by G. F. Handel
The Choral Society of Middle Georgia; Mercer University Choir; and Mercer University Orchestra present to you “Messiah” by G. F. Handel. The performances will be located at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 830 Poplar St, Macon. The concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. and tickets cost $10 each.

“Sing & Rejoice!”
The Mercer University Youth Choirs present to you “Sing & Rejoice!”. The performance will be located at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 300 S Davis Dr, Warner Robins. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. on December 10th and tickets cost $10 per person and $40 per family.
Sunday, December 11, 3:00 p.m.

The Mercer University Youth Choirs present to you “Sing & Rejoice!”. The performance will be located at Riverside United Methodist Church, 735 Pierce Ave. Macon. The concert begins at 3:00 p.m. on December 11th and tickets cost $10 per person and $40 per family.
Tuesday, December 13
Fabian Concert Series, The Cortona Trio
Amy Schwartz Moretti, violin; Julie Albers, cello; Elizabeth Pridgen, piano. The popular trio returns with an early holiday gift, including the “Archduke” trio by Beethoven. 7:30 p.m. December 13th. Neva Langley Fickling Hall in the McCorkle Music Building. Tickets are $15 per person/Free with Mercer ID/Free with any valid student ID.
